Did “Desperate Housewives” and ABC really apologize?

Desperate Housewives apologizes to Filipino People…or did they?
In the apology by ABC they seemed to carefully chose their words but I think they missed the point by a mile!
“The producers of `Desperate Housewives’ and ABC Studios offer our sincere apologies for any offense caused by the brief reference in the season premiere. There was no intent to disparage the integrity of any aspect of the medical community in the Philippines,” the statement said.
ABC apologized? Really?
Or did they apologize ONLY to the “medical community in the Philippines” not to the thousands of Filipino doctors and nurses working here in the United States and worldwide. Weren’t the Filipino people worldwide upset not just in the Philippines? What are they saying here?
Is it just the medical community in the Philippines that deserves a good reputation or the worldwide Filipino medical community.
I’ll pick all of the above for $1000 Alex!
Many folks, in comments, all over the Blogosphere are just passing this off as a joke. Is it a joke if it hurts someone…in this case thousands of Filipinos?
I don’t think so!
How funny would it be if it was against Muslims….African-Americans…..Gays or Illegal immigrants? I’m sure some folks would have seen “humor” in comment directed towards those folks but they would keep it to themselves and not passed it off as “just a joke.”
They would be to scared to.
Instead they chose a “silent minority” a minority who, although proud, and hard working, doesn’t scream and cry foul as often as the above mentioned minorities.
That same “Silent Minority” , the Filipinos, who have to damn near personally appear before god and all his angels to Immigrate to the United States to pursue a better life for themselves and their family.
When others are being considered for amnesty. But that’s another rant all of it’s own.
ABC said it was considering editing the episode.. They must be reminded…
“A thrown stone and a spoken word cannot be recalled.” Sure it can be edited but the cat’s already out of the bag.
If this is humor I believe ABC needs to screen their comedy writers a bit closer. I, personally, never considered “Desperate Housewives” funny. In it’s early days I would tune in only to look at Eva Longoria. Who can blame me?
Now I don’t even do that!
