American Arrested in Tacloban for Child Abuse

Michael David Vogt was arrested in Tacloban and charged with child abuse and “cuddling” two minors inside his hotel room according to ABS-CBN. The report doesn’t tell us when this happened but I assume it’s recent.
Apparently this guy was using the internet to search for, as the report has it, a wife but he had to take photos of them first and of course sample the “goods”.
I don’t mean to offend anyone with that last statement but that seems to be the modus operandi of so many foreign travelers in the Philippines. They seem to treat Filipinas and the Filipino people as something less than human, as something or someone to shop for and buy or sell at will.
It’s would be nice if this were an isolated incident but it’s not. This sort of behavior, among foreign men, is rampant and in many cases worse than what’s been reported.

Tell us what you think should be done about, not just this guy, but all of those just like him.

Dear Mr. Mad Hatter aka Ellumbra aka Tim,
In one of your comments on my first article about The Tierra Maria Estate Scam or as I named it the Philippine Hospital Scam you asked how to recognize the evidence of a scam. I apologize for my delay in fulfilling your request.
First of all I had to objectively ask myself…
Was this really a scam,or as I suggested earlier, a hoax on the “mad hatter’s” part?
I re-read almost all of your blogs, I think, since you’re writing them faster than I can keep up with. And I found the blatant signs of the “scam”. I couldn’t believe it but most of them were right under my nose! Stupid me missed every one of them.
So what I’ve done is list several of the tell tale signs of your scam. I hope this makes you feel better knowing that The High Court here has vindicated you…..happy reading.
You just may have been scammed if…..
- If you’ve ever joined a Filipina dating site and someone actually responds to you…you just may have been scammed.
- If the Filipina that you’ve flown half way around the world to see is actually happy to see you….you just may have been scammed.
- If the lady actually shows up to meet you upon arrival…well you may have been scammed.
- if she happily introduces you to her friends, family, and co-workers…you may have been scammed.
- If you find yourself leaving your wife and home to meet your future wife….well you may have been scammed
- If you pay for any of your fiancé’s meals during your visit…you may have been scammed
- If she uses your money, right in front of you, to buy a pair of sandals without asking you…you may have been scammed! (that’s a secret code amongst the co-conspirators that you’re ripe for the picking)
- If you make plans to buy land for you and your fiancé to live on…you may have been scammed.
- If you find yourself planning some sort of small business to support you and her in paradise…you may have been scammed.
- If you eat just a handful of rice and a chicken wing when there’s enough food to feed many people…you may have been scammed.
- If you’re girlfriend gets pregnant because your making whoopee …then you may have been scammed.
- If your embassy verifies that she really is in the hospital….you may have been scammed.
- If your mysterious friend Jim helps you sneak around behind your wife’s back so you can go to the Philippines…you may have been scammed. (possible conspirator right there under your nose)
- If, after reading your blog for 4 hours, 100’s of people, who don’t even know you, believe you haven’t been scammed…well you might have been scammed.
- If you tell the same story on 100’s of your own blogs to get some “link love”…you just may have been scammed.
- If,during your visit, you consider yourself the “Great White Hope” or a “Golden Goose” ….you just may have been scammed.
- If you, the Golden Goose, actually laid golden eggs during your visit to the Philippines and your Filipino hosts never even noticed it….well you just might have been scammed.
Tim forgive me if I missed any of the tell tale signs that you exposed to the world but I fell asleep about 2 hours into you 4 hour ramblings…it must have been the poems…they were so touching. Soothing might be a better choice of words.

9 People You Will Find in Fil Am Forums
Posted on April 9, 2008
Filed Under Uncategorized | 3 Comments
The Visa information seeker - This speaks for it’s self. They come to a forum looking for advice on their particular visa process. They typically mind their own business and fade off after accomplishing their mission.
The Information Givers - The information providers are the folks who answer questions of all sorts. They have good intentions and want to share their experiences, opinions, and ideas in hopes of helping others.
The Practical - This person, man or woman, will tell it like it is.They don’t sugar coat their comments nor do they intend on hurting anyone. They usually speak from personal experience or from what they’ve observed in the past.
You might not like what they say or how they say but it’s in your best interest to listen and heed their advice.
Many times they will post a one sentence comment or question designed to make you think. It will seem a bit antagonistic but it’s serving a purpose…that much you can be sure of.
The Dreamer - He wants to live in the Philippines with his girlfriend or wife. He comes to the forums looking for advice on how to do so.
He is either savvy and has his act together and listens, or he’s one ticket away from serious problem. There never seems to be a middle of the road here.
Many times they’re living in a dream world refusing to believe anything other than what they want to believe and this will come back to haunt him.
The first mistake the dreamer will make is to believe he can bring his western mentality to the Philippines.
The second mistake he will make is to believe he’s smarter than those around him and nothing he’s been warned of will happen to him.
These folks typically fade off into other forums that support their ideas and lifestyle in hopes of finding sympathy.
The Baiter - The Baiter will do and say anything to draw attention to themselves.
They’re usually classified as trolls but I’ve seen some master baiters over the past few years typically they’re jerk offs and don’t deserve the attention they get.
Other forum members learn pretty fast what they are all about and eventually they leave to ply their trade elsewhere or they get banned from the forum.
The Crabs - The folks, both men and women, have the audacity to complain about crab mentality when, in actuality, they should be looking in the mirror.
They don’t want anyone to be happy, find love, live their dreams and never if ever give any solid advice.
They’re better knows as dream stealers and, once again, their comments aren’t worth the bandwidth that’s hosting them. It’s best to ignore them and leave them amongst themselves.
The Deniers - A denier will denial everything no matter what!
You can recognize them when they come into a forum asking if they’re being scammed, they’ll give all the classic red flags in their situation then get angry when others confirm his fears.
These guys could be seen as Dreamers or a Master Baiters but they usually fade out fast and in a blaze of glory. Once again they are a problem looking for a place to happen.
The Perverts - These men will come into a forum asking tons of questions or posting a “situation” he’s aware of in hopes of finding approval for their miscreant behavior.
Given enough time they’ll expose themselves, in one way or the other, as the pervert they are. They’ll typically start to justify all of what originally bothered them and try to back up their beliefs with their interpretation of laws pertaining to age of consent and other gibberish that may be bouncing around in their sick little minds.
The Haters - These folks just hate anything and anything you or anyone else will say, want or do. It’s just that simple.
They pass themselves off as being practical and there may be a nugget of good information amongst their crap but it’s hardly worth the effort of looking for it. The Hater is a mix of crab and denier. They are definitely master baiters in the truest sense.
I’m sure I could write all day long on this subject and still leave someone out. If you think of someone that I should add feel free to leave it in the comment section.
